WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO

Let me just tell you about my day. summer is killing me and it has only been less than a month! it is too hot for the kids to play outside, there is always the pool, but i'm not really feeling it today, so my kids are either chasing each other through the house, watching TV or hanging off my leg and asking me for food and water. this is all occurring of course while i am either on an important phone call or working with my mother in law on the computer. my nerves are fried and my patience is up. I HATE SUMMER (today anyways)!! As if mine and my kids boredom is not enough, we try to finish the day with family home evening at the pool with all the other church members who have a pool membership. we are not there 15 minutes and Jakob throws up. i am mortified because not only did he ruin the evening plans for everyone, but the pool is now closed for 24 hours and this is not the first time this summer it has happened. I am not sure at this point if i jump in a hole and hide or just go on like it's no big deal. Last year this was not a problem, but this year it apparently might ruin our summer. now i feel like we shouldn't go as much and i do not want to be responsible for ruining anyone else's summer. i even had one of the ladies at the pool pointing at me tonight as if to rub it in and make me feel even worse! HOW RUDE!! my other four kids are beginning to resent Jakob a little bit and blame him for not being able to swim, so i can't imagine the reaction of strangers. so what to do?? i'm almost considering revoking our membership, but then what am i supposed to do with five kids all summer. i think i will really lose my mind then!!

Oh man, that's really tough! Sorry Shanna, I know how frustrating mommy-hood can be sometimes. But seriously, HOW RUDE can some people be. Jakob can't help it!!! Maybe you and Jakob can find something else that he's really into for his summer fun? Maybe all the kids could find a really sweet summer camp somewhere- they have fun, get worn out, and you get a break. It's a win-win! Call if you need to talk! We should get together anyways.

I understand your concern, and I see both sides of your situation, as a mom and then if I were a stranger at the pool and my kids wanted to swim. I don't think that your kids should suffer bc he throws up in the pool. But honestly I wouldn't let Jakob swim, and find another activity for him while they are swimming (so he doesn't feel left out). Can you find a summer camp for just him? How would he feel if you told him he can't swim bc of the throwing up? You have to look at it like a medical reason for not swimming. Maybe if he got special rewards, like alone time w/ you or daddy if he agrees not to swim? I don't know.......tough decision.

ooo thats a tuffy, let me know what you do??? jk. is it because he gets so excited? if thats that case do something that he will get excited about before you go so he'll throw up before. i don't know, but then you'll have to do it everytime you go. Thats a hard one.

that really stinks.
i have no advice.

except i would maybe try and hide the fact that he throws up, so the lifeguards don't see it. and then nobody has to get out of the pool!
or go right before lunch so his stomach is more empty than full?
sorry Shanna, you're such an awesome Mom i know you'll get it figured out better than me...

Oh man. That stinks. Why did he throw up? anna did that once last year. She swallowed some water and gagged and barfed into my hand. One lady saw and went screaming to the life guard. I was so embarrassed. And since then, even a year later, I get nervous when we go to the pool.

So, I totally feel your pain. Keep us updated on what you decide.
